Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered a variety of engaging creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a one button to leap. Across 150 stages, battle mini-bosses and access a store to purchase skins for your dung hero.
Time your movements precisely, since one mistake requires restarting the level. Jump using floating orbs to hurl yourself upward, cross crumbling ledges, and activate triggers to open hidden paths. Earn currency and use them on tougher stages in which things intensifies.
Graphically, the game boasts vibrant stages and catchy soundtrack. The retro art of moving geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to recall previous releases where you are a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often included toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on Steam this November.
