Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Crowd Support Despite Comfortable Win Over Wales.
The England head coach shared his disappointment that the England team did not get more backing from the Wembley crowd during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was pleased to see his team maintain their good form, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes effectively ending the match. Yet, he was displeased with the mood at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half training days to get ready against a well-trained team and we did very well,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth ones. The stadium was silent. There was no any energy from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you deliver in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the team deserved better encouragement today.”
“I stand by my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a bit more backing in phases where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to regain energy, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a fight with fans, Tuchel also created controversy by leaving out Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. Yet the move was justified by Morgan Rogers excelling in the attacking midfield role and netting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” the head coach explained. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Loss
Craig Bellamy hopes that Wales, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on next week, improve after their awful first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this match,” the manager commented. “I wanted to assess where we are. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? Today fills me with inspiration.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after hitting a goalpost and may miss out when the national team play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
